How a valuation works

  1. You bring your coinsAs they are, without cleaning them: cleaning can take a lot of value away from a collector coin.
  2. We examine them in front of youExamination under a loupe, weighing on precision scales, magnet test or touchstone test if needed. We identify each coin, its year and its condition.
  3. We make you an offerIt is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin; for a rare coin, a premium may be added. It is always stated before the sale.
  4. You decideYou sell everything, part or nothing. If you sell: a written contract, payment by bank transfer or cheque.

Local history

Mougins, at the gates of Italy

Until 1860, the river Var separated France from the County of Nice, then part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. A few kilometres from Mougins, people counted in lire. Five years after Nice became French, France, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland founded the Latin Monetary Union: their 20 francs and 20 lire coins held the same weight of gold and circulated side by side.

This is why estates in the Grasse area often mix napoléons, 20 lire and Swiss Vreneli, alongside louis d'or and older écus. Much earlier, the Greeks of Marseille had founded Antipolis, today's Antibes, and the Roman road ran along the coast: ancient coins still sometimes come out of drawers.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the valuation free?

Yes. The valuation is free and commits you to nothing: you leave with your coins if the offer does not suit you.

Do I need an appointment?

No, the shop is open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm. For a large collection, a call to 04 92 92 90 74 lets us set aside the time needed.

How is the price of my coins set?

For common gold and silver coins, the price is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin. For a rare coin or one in very fine condition, a premium may be added; it is always stated before the sale.

How am I paid?

By bank transfer (instant) or by cheque, when the contract is signed. Purchases are paid by cheque or bank transfer, never in cash.

What should I bring?

Your coins, uncleaned, and a valid ID. Sellers must be 18 or over.

Can I change my mind after the sale?

Yes: you have a 48-hour withdrawal period (Article L224-99 of the French Consumer Code), except for investment gold.
